The Cliffs Communities under new management
Posted by William Stewart on Friday, February 10th, 2012 at 12:51pm.Founded in 1991, The Cliffs Communities is a beautiful network of developments spanning the North Carolina and South Carolina border. Three mountain communities are located in Greenville County: The Cliffs at Glassy, The Cliffs at Mountain Park, and Cliffs Valley. They also have three lakeside communities in Asheville as well as The Cliffs at Keowee.
Plans for The Cliffs Communities have been very ambitious with signature golf courses designed by elite golf personalities, including Tiger Woods. Once slated to be a luxury community around the Blue Ridge Mountains, this development has known it's share of trouble as the real estate market declined.
But things are looking up for The Cliffs. A Texas couple, Steve and Penny Carlile, is buying most of the assets of the community as they seek to turn it around. The golf courses and clubhouses will be completed and they will redouble efforts to sell lots.
"The Carliles have a personal stake in High Carolina’s future. They first bought a home lot in Walnut Cove but switched to High Carolina, saying they wanted the cooler weather the higher elevation brings.
"A Cliffs subsidiary that owns its golf courses, clubhouses and other amenities will file for bankruptcy, the Carliles and Cliffs officials said Thursday, with plans for the Carlile group to buy it out of bankruptcy." -- Asheville Citizen-Times
